Quake hosted Rovers for the 3rd Round of Premier League matches on Saturday and just shaded the day with 5 wins and 4 losses picking up 15 much needed Club Championship points.  Quake's ladies stepped up and delivered, winning all of their games and the 14 Boys broke through for their first win of the year.  After having played 2 very strong clubs in the first rounds and being just edged out in many of those games the results finally fell our way.  Now that the momentum that had been building has resulted in points we are looking forward to even better results throughout the year.  Here are brief reports on yesterday's matches.

Another very entertaining game with Quake playing some very good futsal to dominate the run of play in the first half.  Rovers regrouped at the half and hit 2 absolute bombs to restore their confidence and from that point onwards shaded our boys in general play.  In the end it was a very even contest and nothing could seperate the 2 teams at the final whistle.  It's a pleasure to watch these lads each week.

Costly turnovers and deadly finishing from Rovers again saw the boys on the wrong end of the scoreboard.  With the ball the boys are confident and show great promise and they defend well when set, but turnovers are costing them with the opposition seeming to score everytime they go on a break.  The ability is there for to all to see, the potential is enormous and the season is only young.  It will only be a matter of time before the boys start to get the results they are capabale of.

A very strong team effort combined with some brilliant individual performances saw the girls get their first win of the year.  Rovers had one dominant player at target who threatened to win the game on her own but tenacious efforts by Emily North and Ebony McCue-Shore kept her in check long enough for the girls to score 3 of their own.  Rosie Galea showed she is back in a big way with a hat trick, being assisted for 2 of her goals by Andrea Murtagh.  And Tiff Craig was simply outstanding in goals and was rewarded with playing the final 2 minutes in the 14s.  Well done girls on your first win.

With a full squad and still stinging from letting the first 2 games slip away from them the boys made sure of a win this week.  Playing good futsal they dominated the game and lead 4-0 late in the match.  Rovers did make a surge but Harry Bagot in goals made sure of the points with a rare 6 metre penalty save and topped it off with a 10 metre penalty save.  Liam McGing looked to have found his ryhthm and Anthony Haddad used his size and strength to good effect.  Overall a very good team effort resulting in the boys deservedly getting their first points.

The standout performance of the day.  The girls played beautifully structured futsal and dominated the whole match.  Krstina Sekulic took up good positions at the far past and got her rewards with 2 mighty blasts and a finess finish and Mia Connors played probably her best ever game for Quake.  She also got her reward with a rare goal, but expect more from now on.  Erin Brennan didn't have much to do in goals but when called upon she was terrific.  Every girl should get a mention because Quake didn't have a bad player and the coaches deserve credit for how far these girls have come in such a short time.  More of the same please girls, it was a joy to watch.

In a rematch of last year's Grand Finalists Rovers took the honours.  Quake gifted Rovers 3 of their goals with very poor turnovers in the back court and except for the efforts of Jamie Jallad in goals the scoreline could have been much, much worse.  The boys deserve credit for hanging in and bringing the game back to 2-4 on a fifth man play but in the end the result was a fair reflection of the game.  Some work to do for the boys before next week.

16 Girls: Proudly Sponsored By Macarthur Marble & Granite  - Quake 1 (Logan Garard) defeated Rovers 0

A much better performance by the girls saw them notch their first win of the season.  Quake took an early lead and then battled to the end.  Rovers didn't make things easy and resorted to long throw after long throw by the 'keeper to try and pinch the goal they needed.  Chrystal Duggan worked tirelessly and Ruby Mosca was unlucky not to add a second goal with her drive rebounding off the post.  Still more work to do for the girls but some pressure released after this good win.

The 3rd tight game in a row for the lads but this time they came away without a point.  But they should have!  Quake went a goal down late in the 1st half and then dominated the 2nd half but missed chance after chance to draw level and then win the game.  I don't think the boys would say they've played well in any of the 3 games this year yet they've hung on and competed in all 3.  More hard work at training and better finishing should see results come their way soon.

A game the girls will want to forget quickly.  Rovers had the bare 5 players to play the whole match with 2 of those having already played in the 16s.  They played with great spirit and even took the lead into the half.  The girls seemed out of sorts but eventually managed to find the 2 goals they needed to take the points but had to rely on Dana Buttigieg to keep the points safe.  They say the sign of a good team is that they win when they play poorly and this is what the girls did yesterday.  Some work to do before the big Eagles match up next weekend.

Quake started well and looked to be comfortable in the first 15 minutes and took the lead through a Bruno Antelmi bomb.  But that was as good as it got with sloppy passing, turnovers and poor defending from that point on seeing Rovers dominate the rest of the game.  Ollie Lawton came on the 2nd half and kept the score respectable with a very good performance.  The previous 2 games had many positives to soothe the losses but not much good can be taken from this game.  But we're confident the lads will work hard and results will come their way.
