Team Profile: 14 Girls - Proudly Sponsored by Clintons Toyota

In our latest of our series of Team Profiles we speak with 14 Girls Coach Josh Curtain about the girls, their goals and what we should expect from them this year.  This team is an interesting mix of players returning from last year's 12 Girls and new players to the club.  They are somewhat of an unknown quantity but Josh will help us get to know the girls better.

Editor: So Josh, what were you and Shannon looking for at trials?

Josh:  Shannon and I were looking for talented and determined players who are hungry for success.  With the side we have chosen we have a wealth of ability which Shannon and I are hoping will lead to a successful season on and off the court.  The girls have a great chemistry and work very well together.  Although this season we see many new faces joining the club, I have no doubt the girls will be fantastic together and I am looking forward to what I believe will be another prosperous season.

Editor: What will be your objectives this year?

Josh:  We may only retain 3 players from Quake last season but the girls are settling well and already showing promising signs of a great season.

At the end of the day, I want to win everything that the team plays in, both as a player and a coach I have the desire to be successful in everything I do and I sense this passion equally in the team Shannon and I have assembled.  Although some people may find this ambitious I have complete confidence that the girls can string together the results they need to go all the way.  Consistency and a level head will be the key this year and I have absolutely no doubt that the goals I set the girls can be achieved as they are all intelligent and quality players.

Editor: Can you give us a run down of the players?

Josh:  Erin - A no-nonsense and fearless goalkeeper, already in the trials she proved her quality with some excellent displays.  Look to see Erin proving her ability throughout the season throwing her body around well and leading from the back of the court.

Mia - A Quake incumbent, Mia has shown her ability again this season with some impressive displays at training and in the trials.  Mia is strong, tough and clever on the ball, watch for her talented passing ability splitting defenders and creating goal scoring opportunities through unselfish play.

Stephanie - Her first year at Quake and already an extremely valuable asset to the team.  Not afraid to take players on is one of Steph's many qualities.  Always fun, happy and a 'good dancer', Steph is a great motivator with her positive talk and outlook.

Hannah - Rising from our last years 12's Hannah is intelligent, skillful and fearless.  Hannah has a great mix of abilities which make her a formidable player.  Already stepping well into the older age group Hannah has shown she is ready to take this age group by storm.  Watch for her to really make a mark on the competition this season.

Tyler - Energetic, skillful and an eye for goal, Tyler has all the makings to leave defenders scared and goalkeepers shaking.  Tyler is down to earth and always ready to learn new things, intelligent in defence and is always asking questions.  Has the potential to be a dominant force in this seasons 14's competition.

Ash - Another Quake incumbent, Ash is quick, agile and has a real eye for goal.  Her shooting so far this season has been phenomenal, with powerful and emphatic goals being her trademark.  Ash will be a strong leader in this comp, showcasing her array of talent and speed, she will be another who has the potential for a real impact on this 14's comp.

Beth - Her first year at the club and Beth is already justifying her selection with excellent displays in the pre season.  Another who is hungry to learn about the gam.  Beth has an amazing ability to anticipate and read the game both in attack and defence and isn't afraid to put her body on the line.

Krstina - Her first season at Quake and has already put in some quality displays.  Strong on the ball, skillful and direct, Kristina has many assets which make her a strong player. Always hungry for the ball and scoring goals, Kristina will show everyone her undeniable ability this season.

Editor: Finally, you coached 12 Boys last year. Is coaching girls different?

Josh:  Changing from boys to girls isn't as quite a significant jump as it would seem, although at times I can hardly even keep up with them!  There are some changes in the ways you approach your coaching and some alterations in your methods but all in all, there isn't a huge amount of difference.  The girls are here to learn and improve and I'm here to help guide and develop them as players and as people.  As long as the impact I'm having is positive and the girls are enjoying their futsal then I believe that they will have an extremely successful season.  The main aspect I look at as a coach is to be a role model and give them the tools they need to be great players on and off the court and ensure their continued involvement in the greatest game there is.
