Cameron Mooney: the man, the myth and the legend delighted at the 2012 Maroochydore Australian Football Club Sportsman’s Lunch.
Mooney, former Geelong Cats Premiership Player attended the event at Maroochy Surf Club as a guest of honour and did not disappoint.
Speaking about his days playing footy and the many different personalities associated with the Geelong Cats was educational and entertaining provided more than enough food for thought to all of the attendees.
As did former Australian Cricketer, Damien Fleming who outside his illustrious career bowling for Australia should have a part time job as a comedian, revealing some of the best kept personality secrets among his team members.
Maroochydore Roos Senior Committee Member, Peter Kerr said the Lunch was a huge success not only for both the Junior and Senior Clubs but also a great opportunity for the AFL community to mingle with sporting legends.
“The two guests in Cam and Damien were really great, they wanted to be involved and honestly, they added so much to the afternoon... they were more than happy to hang around after and chat,” Kerr said.
“It is always a great afternoon surrounded by like minded people and this year was no exception with great food, views, entertainment and some excellent auction items that attracted really high bidding and sales.
“Obviously as a developing Club the funds raised will go back into the Junior and Senior development programs to manufacture some AFL talent for the region to follow in the footsteps of former Maroochydore boy, now Brisbane Lion, Josh Drummond.”
With approximately 160 guests Maroochydore Club President, Craig Scrase was more than happy with the community support and the way the event panned out.
“We have done the Sportsman’s lunch for a few years and it is great to get the AFL and sporting communities together towards the end of the season, kick back and enjoy all things sport and good company,” Scrase said.
As the season has drawn to a close the Maroochy Roos will now have a month off before hitting the track for preseason training in anticipation of another successful season in 2013.
