The young Maroochydore Under 18s will hit the road for the final game of the season on Saturday with one aim- bring back the Premiership Trophy.
Maroochydore Club President, Craig Scrase believes that the boys have what it takes to claim the Under 18 Division One Cup title.
“The boys have been really impressive all season and it has been great for the club to witness the emerging talent develop throughout the season,” Scrase said.
“This week will be the ultimate test as Sandgate have defiantly challenged them though out the season and Grand Final day is always brings something different to everyone’s game of footy.”
The Roos pipped Sandgate at the post on their last meeting in the semis, getting up by just four points, 10.5.65 to 8.13.61 with inaccurate kicking costing the Sea Hawks dearly.
The Maroochydore Roos and Sandgate Hawks will face off this weekend as the two best teams in the SEQAFL under 18 Division One Cup competition.
Both teams have had impressive home and away seasons which with similar paths to the finals.
They finished first and second on the ladder on equal points with thirteen wins two losses and one draw (a washout round) each.
Only for and against percentage saw Sandgate pull into top spot, taking the minor premiership by 22%.
The Hawks have the best defensive record in the competition conceding an average of only 30 points per game.
Not to be outdone, the Roos have been a powerhouse in front of the goals in 2012, amassing an average of 108 points per game.
Complicating things, Sandgate only just pipped the Roos in defensive stats and vice-versa for attack.
The statistics considered it was no surprise that when the two teams met in the semi’s the game was decided by a single kick.
Maroochydore will be hoping C. Miller, G. Douglass and J. Chapman played like they did in the semi final win.
Roos Coach Hans Heystraten will also be looking to key forward Nic Selman to post a bag of goals to see his team over the line.
Sandgate need to rectify two things if they are going to get up over the Roos this weekend.
Coach Brett (Snowy) Ayton needs to get his boys out of the blocks early as in their last two games they have played catch-up football and it has cost them.
Sandgate have also been struggling to convert where it matters with inaccurate goal kicking.
Ball winners Dickfos and Conway will need more assistance from Arnott-Hollick if they are to be a challenge this weekend and hopefully Jordan Fuller has strapped on his goal kicking boots.
All things considered, this game is too close to call and could go either way on Saturday.
