Coach Allan was feeling good with the attitude at training being very positive and the team had done well on the track, a few positional changes and the team was ready to go.
Supported by family and club supporters and the team started very well in complete contrast to the week before.
They looked to have got their mojo back and had control of the game all day. Noosa tried very hard to fight their way back into the game keeping the Western Magpies very honest knowing, that they could not afford slip back in their efforts or Noosa would most certainly take the control back.
Overall a great team performance and with another good week on the track the team will be looking to continue on their winning way against Sandgate in the Preliminary Final.
Full details as to time and place when they are confirmed by AFLQ.
The Sunday Final games started with the Reserves playing Surfers Paradise at the Nest.
The Reserves decided today was the day to not play to expectations and let the Demons control the game from the start. The boys struggled with the positive finals attitude that Surfers bought to the game and could not get the lift they needed to take control back from the Demons who ran out comfortable winners on the day. The Bird was still backing a three goal win midway through the last quarter such is the bird’s belief in this group.
The Bird is sure that Coach St John will address the issues as will the players, ensuring a stronger, finals committed effort over the next two weeks. This side is too good not to balance back and the bird believes that the next two weeks will see this team play great hard finals football.
The Bird is sure the work and reflection will be done this week on the track and all will be ready for the Preliminary final challenge against Sandgate next week end.
The Seniors would see the Western Magpies taking on traditional rivals Palm Beach who in the first week of the finals defeated the reigning premiers who incidentally easily defeated the Western Magpies in the last home and away game.
So Palm Beach had every right to be felling very confident.
The Bird expected the game to be a hard physical contest accompanied by good skills, and the first half did not disappoint with both sides giving no quarter and the scores reflecting the pressure being applied at each contest.
The Coaching team would have been happy with the first half and would have readied the team for the same in the second asking the boys to raise the bar and really turn up the intensity as we all expected that to come from the Lions.
The message really hit the mark and the Pies really turned up the pressure and run to easily win the second half and run out winners on the day. Great game guys.
The win has the seniors straight in the grand final and a week off to heal any minor injuries. I am sure Peter will have them primed again for the winner of Palm Beach and Noosa next week.
The Bird’s season review is nearing completion but the season is not over and all three of our senior teams are still in the race, so let’s be positive and support the teams as we continue in the finals race.
Well done to all teams.
