It was the end of the season for Div 4, their last game being against Penrith at Greygums Oval on Saturday. With their season winding down, several late changes saw the Bombers with no interchange for the game, and the fatigue would take its toll. The Rams got the early jump, and there was no way back for the Bombers, who would go down by 88 points. It was a disappointing way to bring the Div 4 season to an end; but it has been a big season for our thirds team, and we look forward to the 2013 campaign from our Div 4 team.
Div 1 were also in action at Greygums. It was low scoring, but goal for goal through the first half, with only six points separating the two sides at quarter time and again at half time. But the Bombers were unable to trouble the scorers in the third quarter, and would go on to go down by 20 points.
Sunday afternoon was cool and blustery at Henson Park. It was a slow start for the Bombers, with the Dockers getting two goals in the first few minutes; but late in the quarter the Bombers steadied to get back to within a point at quarter time. The Bombers got on top around the ground in the second term, but could only manage behinds for a while. Despite clearly being the better side in the second term, the Bombers lead at the long break was only ten points.
The Bombers continued to run in the third quarter, winning around the ground and creating plenty of scoring chances. Not all the chances were converted, but with a 20-point lead at the last change the Bombers were well placed. And the floodgates opened in the last quarter, as the Bombers turned their dominance around the ground into scoreboard pressure; a seven goal final quarter keeping the Bombers a game clear on top of the ladder, the double-chance in the finals assured and a win next week will seal the minor premiershup.
