Mulwala’s reserves robust full forward, Dylan Flanagan has smashed the league reserves goal kicking record, kicking his 100th goal against Tocumwal on Saturday 11th August. This makes Dylan the first person in Murray League history to kick 100 goals in reserves football. Mulwala’s Leigh Miller held the previous leading goal tally in 2007 with 87 goals. Dylan is also now ranked 30th Australian wide in the Skin’s Leading Goal Kicking.
Dizza has had a ripping season. He has lost around 15kgs since pre-season, but is still strong enough to hold out any full back. He is a strong mark overhead, on the lead as well as one on one. His new haircut has also contributed to his tally, with his flowing mullet helping him to determine wind speed & direction.
When asked about his achievement, Dylan’s main comment was, “Aqua ripped me off. I kicked 17 but he only put down 16.” This is still up for debate, for we all know Aqua is never wrong.
It seems a coincidence that he was to achieve this milestone against the team he was previously leading goal kicker for in his junior career. Dylan started the game playing for Mulwala, kicking 6 goals before changing jumper to play for Tocumwal. He then managed to kick Toc’s only goal for the day to be the leading goal kicker for both teams. I’m sure he will show you the Herald Sun newspaper clipping if you need proof.
Senior coach Nick O’Bryan was glad to see Diz break the record. “I asked him about playing seniors a few weeks ago and he told me, “Not until I’ve kicked my 100.”” The only concern he had was, “What happens if he goes out & kicks a bagful? I don’t want to tell Jamesy he will be playing twos.”
We all wish Dylan all the best for the rest of the season & the finals series.
GO MUL!!!
A special mention must also go to Gashy and Jonny Whelan for carrying Diz off the ground. Jonny has withdrawn from this week & Gashy is still under an injury cloud.
