WHOROULY ticked off another box on Saturday in its preparations for the 2012 finals series, comfortably accounting for fellow contender King Valley by 36 points at Whitfield.
Gun midfielder Kyle Archibald went forward with devastating effect, kicking eight goals in a best on ground performance as the Lions prevailed 17.11 (113) to 12.5 (77).
But it wasn't just the performance of Archibald that would have opposition coaches suffering headaches because the Lions' big name players were all up and about.
Luke Elkington dominated and picked up kicks at will, Trevor Vyner starred in the midfield, Adam Pascoe was superb in the ruck and up forward while Michael Nixon presented all day.
Even influential forward Richie Leahy was a little quieter than usual but still popped up with five majors.
The Lions always looked to have the Roos measure but couldn't shake them in the first half.
Whorouly skipped away to a two-goal lead at the first break and extended that margin to 25 points at the main change.
But still the Roos wouldn't go away and led by Adam Williams, Brendan Sessions and Jono Rea, they outscored the Lions in the third quarter to reeuce the margin to 21 points at the final change.
Aaron Kiely was also proving a handful for the Lions' defenders with four goals so the scene was set for a big final term.
Unfortunately for the Roos, they had nothing left to give in the final quarter and the Lions were able to finally kick away.
