Below is the opening paragraph of a review by Rob Hess from Victoria University of Terry Keenan's book In Safe Hands which appeared in the May issue of Sporting Traditions.
No doubt it will encourage you to read the rest of the review via the link at the bottom of this item and then go ahead and purchase your own copy of In Safe Hands.
Every football club needs someone like Terry Keenan. Someone who is embedded within the community and well connected with the local history society, someone who is a skilled and dedicated researcher, someone who can write fluidly and is familiar with appropriate academic apparatus, and most of all, perhaps, someone who has the time, energy and resources to bring to fruition not just one, but several, quality publishing projects on the history of a club. Keenan’s previous works on various aspects of the development of the Port Melbourne Football Club (PMFC) will be well known to academic and amateur historians alike, and his books have been lauded in this journal and elsewhere by myself and other reviewers. But his most recent volume, In Safe Hands: Presidents of the Port Melbourne Football Club is a unique and ground-breaking publication.
