MATCH REPORT SUNDAY 29th JULY 2012
A terrific attendance of both our teams at Ringwood on a terrible winter day is an indication to the effort made by our Super coaches, Dave Regan, Matty Johnson and Andrew Fry to keep our club , the Mighty Panthers a happy and content group of footballers that enjoy the company of each other. It was great to see that most players from our first game stayed at the ground to support our second game. Toby Crook although injured still arrived to support both teams.
Only players missing were Beau Gunning, Nick Crilly, and John Hamilton all sick, Rod Pettit accident and Marcel Vermulst, 37 players from our total list of 42 players, congratulations to all concerned.
MAZENOD BLUE 8.5.53 defeated RINGWOOD BLACK 2.3.15 at Ringwood
On a day better suited for mud wrestling at Jubilee Park Ringwood, Panthers Blue adapted to the conditions a bit better than Ringwood and were able to avenge our last game defeat against Coburg by running out 38 point winners against Ringwood Spiders our opponents that we will meet in the Grand Final August 19th.
In a tough energy sapping game Chris Vergos was at his best winning the hard ball with second and third efforts to get the ball out of the mud to John Soles or Simon Pollock that were running the opposition off their feet, Peter Zapantis has found form at the right end of the season and was constantly palming the ball in the ruck contest to our smaller rover type players, such as Sam Samason and Josh Wallace both of whom were getting plenty of the ball. Justin Dovaston was again like a rock at full back with his running clearing dashes down the grandstand wing had him reaching for his asthma puffer after three great efforts in the third quarter. Shaun Dux playing his best season in the past five years again led by example of great team play during the game, and finished off being our main avenue to goal by kicking two goals in the first quarter, and another one in the third. Big Aaron Yaksender lost concentration early in the game but settled down in the second quarter and let his actions speak for themselves for the remainder of the game proving what an asset he has become this year for the Panthers with his big booming kicks from centre half forward.
Eastern district umpires volunteer each home game at Ringwood ,and give the game ball to their choice of best on ground, another good game from Simon Pollock saw him awarded that honour, and Simon was awarded the footy. Well done Polly.
Goalkickers; Shaun Dux 3, John Soles, Mark Vanderven, Simon Pollock, Sam Samason, Aaron Yaksender all 1 each.
Best; Chris Vergos (best on ground) John Soles, Shaun Dux, Simon Pollock, Justin Dovaston, Mark Vanderven, Aaron Yaksender, Sam Samason, Matthew Dray and Jason Gannon.
MAZENOD BLACK 4. 2. 26 defeated by RINGWOOD RED 4 .7. 31
The game started in the rain and like the first game it was a hard slog from start to finish.
Nick DiStasio started the day well with a nice goal, and narrowly missed a second three minutes later when dragged off the ball, his brother Anthony is proving a match winner each week in Panthers Black as he constantly attacks the ball with his lighting speed and enthusiasm.
It was a fantastic game of footy with not much advantage to either team for the entire game. Ringwood was 5 points in front as the siren rang, just as the ball was heading into our forward line, another two minutes we may have kicked that match winning goal.
Congratulations to Steve Wells on kicking his first goal in Panthers colours.
Goalkickers; Nick DiStasio, James Hosken, Steve Wells.
Best; Team effort, too many good players to list. Anthony DiStasio was voted best on ground.
