SHARP/JOHNSON CHALLEGE SHIELD WEDNESDAY 1st AUGUST
The annual challenge match was played on the Mazenod College oval in front of a capacity crowd as they witnessed yet another win to the mighty Panthers for a third year in a row.
Panthers pressure on the ball had many Mazenod students fumbling in front of goal and on many occasions often passed the ball to opposition players by mistake, taking full opportunity
of the confusion goals were kicked by Roger Winter, Nick DiStasio, Gorge Youssef, and Corey Pollock. Nick Crilly was at his best either on the ball or dashing down the wing.
Andrew Conner for the second year appeared in Mazenod College colours and kicked 5 goals his all time record goals scored in one game.
At the last change the Panthers were in trouble 4 points down and in danger of losing the shield for the first time in three years, but strong play by all players found the Panthers 7 point winners on the night. George Youssef as captian for the night was presented with the shield.
Many thanks to Fr Twigg, and teachers from Mazenod College for making this annual game such a much looked forward event by all our players. Congratulations to all Mazenod College students that had taken the time to be part of this special night for our team, the understanding of the special event by students showed maturity well above their years. Thanks Guys.
MATCH REPORT SUNDAY AUGUST 5th 2012
MAZENOD BLUE 12.9.81 defeated CRANBOURNE 3.9.27 at HOME
With only 10 mins to game time the Panthers had only 10 players to take to the field, and with a minimum of 12 players required there was a danger that we would have to forfeit the match, however alarms clocks were set late because Mark Vanderven, Matthew Dray, Sam Samason, Josh Wallace and Matthew Pearson arrived at the last minute and we ran onto Central Reserve ready to do battle with Cranbourne with a full compilment of players.
Please arrive early on Grand Final day because we want to be completely relaxed and organized before the game, with no last minute rush.
Panthers Blue were in control though out the match at every change against a very under manned Cranbourne in fact several of our top players made a nice gesture by playing for Cranbourne to even the competition between teams, when it was obvious that the Panthers were too strong for the opposition, thank you Rod Pettit, Jake Phillips, Chris Vergos, and Mark Vanderven.
The result of the game had no effect on our position on the ladder and was played in very relaxed conditions with Aaron Yaksender a stand out performance with best on ground.
BEST; Team effort everyone played well in a warm up match to our Grand Final against Ringwood Sunday August 19th
Goals; Rod Pettit 3, John Soles 1, Justin Dovason 1, Shaun Dux 1, Aaron Yaksender 1, Matthew Dray 1, Beau Gunning, Peter Bisognin1, Matt Peason 1, and Sam Samason 1
MAZENOD BLACK Played a great game against CHADSTONE at Chadstone
We travelled to Chadstone for a scratch match as a warm up game for our Grand Final, all our players were playing great team footy with both teams playing the game in great spirit and enjoyment. Thank you Damien Cousins, James Hosken, for playing in Chadstone colours to even up team numbers.
As with Panthers Blue, Panthers Black looked in great condition and form for our big game in a fortnights time against Ringwood in the Grand Final.
Best; Everyone looked and played magnificent.
