Season 2011 was spectacular for the Port Melbourne Football Club winning every game on their way to the VFL Premiership . Now the famous 'Borough' are kicking goals off the field, securing local film star Costas Kilias for a special upcoming President's Luncheon on Saturday, 11th August for the home match against fellow finals contender Box Hill.
The son of Greek immigrants and best known for roles such as Farouck in 'The Castle' and Tony, the Ugoslav in the 'Wog Boy', Kilias will speak about growing up in Port Melbourne, his popular film characters and his 20 plus years as a criminal law barrister.
“It's an honour to be asked by the Port Melbourne Football Club to speak at their luncheon, particularly since my brother and I grew up following Port and such champions as Freddy Cook and Billy Swan” Kilias said.
“The luncheon also gives me a chance to catch up with many old friends and hopefully cheer the Borough home to a win over Box Hill”.
Port Melbourne Football Club President, Peter Bromley, said the local actor was just one of many special guests that have been introduced to the club's luncheons in 2012.
“Along with radio station SEN 1116's Mark Fine (June 30th) and club great Bob Withers (August 18th), Costas Kilias is another welcome and unique addition to our increasingly popular luncheons at North Port Oval”.
“We've also introduced interviews with some of our injured players during these luncheons. This is a win- win situation, as our supporters and sponsors get to know a little bit more about our players, while the players themselves get introduced to the off-field match day operations of the club”.
This year has also seen a significant increase in the number of attendees to the club's luncheons, driven by Port Melbourne's on field success and supporter led innovation.
“Just recently local Port Melbourne resident, Cameron Towson, created a great video highlights package of our rivalry with Coburg. It went down a treat with our supporters and we hope to show more rivalries and grand finals of old during our up coming matches”.
The President's Luncheon featuring Costas Kilias will be held at the PMFC Social Rooms at 12.15pm for a 12.30pm start. Tickets at $40 per person are limited and people are urged to book now on 9646 2094.
