BRIGHT Football and Netball Club members have overwhelmingly voted in support of a bid to transfer from the Ovens and King Football Netball League to the Tallangatta and District league next season.
More than 50 people attended a meeting at the Pioneer Park clubrooms on Tuesday night to vote on one of the most significant moves in the club's history.
Club president David Kelly spoke of the committee's desire to switch leagues to ensure the club's future.
Distinct arguments for the move include the TDFL's strong underage competition, which will not only unite both the senior and junior clubs, but shy the organisation away from the struggling under 18s competition in the OandK.
Those present were seemingly pleased with the decision for change after a 58-year association with the OandK, as there were no dissenting opinions raised before the vote.
Mr Kelly said the meeting was an encouraging early step, with the majority vote granting the club an opportunity to apply for a transfer to the TDFL before the cut-off date on October 31.
"The response was positive and the information was clear," he said.
"I don't exactly know what's next, who we get permission from, but the club has voted, so we can move on and we'll be filled in as to who we approach next."
A large contingent of netballers were present at the meeting, with a move to the TDFL having an impact on the functionality of the club.
"There was a little bit of feedback from the netballers, they're probably going to be the ones that are going to have to change their process a little bit more than the footballers," Mr Kelly said.
