Sandgate Masters vs. Caboolture Round 2 2012
Masters second round was played against Caboolture last weekend and all were hoping for a win after a close defeat to Redcliffe the previous round.
The round welcomed back such players as Crackers, Joey, Dawsy and Bruce Sullivan. They were certainly needed for the clash, as several players were still hung over from Des’s 50th celebration the night before.
The game started well with a quick goal from Neil, who was playing in the ruck for the first time, and then followed with goals from Cam and Middy. The back line, though missing Willow at fullback (at his daughter’s birthday-what kind of an excuse is that!!!) did a great job for the half and at the half siren were only 2 points down against a side that has been undefeated for 2 years.
The half time talk must have been un-inspirational, as we didn’t kick a score for the third quarter, while Caboolture kicked 2 goals. The team lacked a little direction in the center with regular ruckman Sticks and Kev sidelined with other commitments, and with communication not as strong, saw the ball won consistently by Caboolture. Baxy had a blinder at fullback with plenty of support from Dawsy, Sock, Bruce and Marty.
The final quarter resulted in another 2 goals to the opposition, and Middy nailing another 6 points, with a great lead from the goal square. (Now leading goal kicker with 5 from the first 2 games).
Though Caboolture was the more experienced side, Sandgate played well and had a few opportunities come off, a win could have been on the cards. Our first win for the season is not far off with efforts like today.
After the game drinks were had by both teams and our seasons jerseys were presented by three of our sponsors Baxy (Carrick Education), Phil (Auto Easy Mechanical) and Andy (AB Installations) - thanks guys.
Final score 8-6-54 5-2-32
