The seniors turned up on Saturday and played their best four quarters for the year. It was a great effort but the whole team. The Ressies and U/19s went down however to stronger opposition.
The lead up to the Seniors game was interesting. Beaumaris has been in good form and were well entrenched in the four. But we always appear to match up quite well on them and with the added motivation of milestones from Hammer and Harro, it was always going to be an interesting battle.
The boys got off to a good start and were certainly matching it with the visitors. Ridgy got our first but Beauy quickly replied. Then a series of events conspired to “gift” us two goals as the Beaumaris defense wanted to argue with the umpires and us. Ferg was at his niggling best and the onballers were providing plenty of supply. So you got the sense it may be our day.
And the second quarter went a long way to entrenching that view with an eight goal blitz from the magenta and black. Ridgy was on fire and kicked one of the goals of the year in the pocket and on his left side. Harro and Lill were fantastic in the ruck while the defenders were their usual tight best, restricting them to only one goal for the quarter. But all the action was really at the other end. Disco was standing tall in the full forward post and took a couple of really strong marks. Will McTaggart was dangerous and all forwards were well served by the midfield who were getting plenty of aggert (?). Ridgy had kicked seven for the half showing he was back to his very best.
The half time break came too early. We went in with 53 point lead, knowing however that the opposition would bounce back. And when they scored the first goal for the stanza we knew it was still “game on”. But normality was quickly restored and while Beaumaris won the quarter, it was only marginally. Al Johnston and Nick Gooda were having a great time on their respective wings, while Pop had the ball on a string. Raff was racking them up and Ridgy was still dining out. Young Kingy and Stowey were showing plenty of “in and under” making it hard for the visitors to get any easy positions.
The throng gathered for the orange break, warily confident. Again Beauy scored the first for the quarter but a quick reply from Will McTaggart snuffed out any hopes of a visitor’s revival. Indeed the boys maintained the rage and were almost lairizing towards the end which was justified. Ridgy ended up with ten big ones in a fantastic display. Indeed the goal scoring was shared amongst only five players with Will McTaggart and Sec also getting significant hauls. The game had been a pretty tough one and we really exerted our presence with a sensational all round team effort. The mindset was positive and the boys played accordingly.

The Ressies went down to a competent Beaumaris side but were far from disgraced. A number of players were short of a run which didn’t help in the concluding stages. DMac was our best while it was good to see Trav Wyeth amongst the goal kickers.

The U/19s battled hard but were beaten by top four placed Werribee Districts. Jordan Toy was named our best player while Matt Mitchell continued his fine form in front of goal, kicking six big ones. He is well on top in the competition’s goal kicking and we look forward to that continuing.
