North Shore were split over two venues on Saturday afternoon, a glorious sunny day.
The Under 18s were in action at Gore Hill. It was a slow start for the Bombers, held scoreless in the first quarter; but fortunately Riverview weren't kicking straight and the Bombers were only 12 points behind at quarter time. The Bombers started the second term strongly, levelling the scores; but then Riverveiw got on top later in the quarter and the Bombers were 25 points behind at half time.
It was a hard way back for the Bombers, with the injury toll mounting. And with Riverview holding the Bombers to one goal for the quarter, the Bombers trailed by 33 points at the last change. It was a tough morning for the Bombers, going down in the end by 37 points.
The Div 4 game had a big prize, with a spot in the top five for the winner. The Bombers were inaccurate early, which saw them trail by three points at quarter time despite having had more of the play. A tough and physical contest, it was a closely-fought affair; and at half time the Bombers were nine points behind.
North Shore worked hard in the third term, but poor kicking would let them down and the Bombers still found themselves 6 points down at the last change. Early in the last quarter the Bombers levelled the scores but could go no further; as some more missed opportunities, a few close calls that didn't go our way and a hard and tough game ran NorWest's way in the latter stages. The Bombers ended up going down by 16 points.
Meanwhile at Waverley Oval it was a better story for the Div 1 side. Creating plenty of scoring chances and converting most of them , the Bombers took out a 20-point win to keep themselves in finals contention.
The Premier Division at Waverley Oval saw a scrappy first half, with the Bombers staying on top and choking the UTS attack. The Bats were held to one goal in the first half, as the Bombers took control to lead by 19 points at half time.
But we had a thriller against UTS at Gore Hill early in the season, and this one would also go down to the wire. The Bats with four quick goals in the third term took the lead, before the Bombers regained the initiative just before three quarter time. The lead see-sawed in the last quarter, but the Bombers fell over the line by 8 points - wrapping up a finals berth and putting themselves in a good position for the double-chance.
