Round 13 Under 9s Lightning Premiership Day.
Our Lightning Premiership Day was on Sunday the 22nd of July at King George Reserve. We played against East Malvern, Hampton and Ajax. We had prime position right in front of Oval 3 and our marquee was up with the Highett Bulldogs name on it. Thank you to Greg Vakis, Matthew and Vincent Ruffin and Leanne Carter for putting the marquee up on the Saturday. Thank you to Jo Vakis who made our Footy biscuits.
Thank you to Julie and Chris Glassock for our collage of our awesome coach. Thank you to the paparazzi for taking the team photos.
Highett 2 1 13 3 1 19
East Malvern 1 3 9 2 4 16
Goals: Connor Cooke 2 and William Crawford 1.
Our first match was against East Malvern who was probably the best team we had played during the year. This was a very tight goal for goal game. With only 1 ½ minutes to go, we were down by 3 points and then a great passage of play resulted in Connor Cooke marking the ball and goaling which put us in front and we hung on. The boys were very excited and proudly sang our song while the parents were checking their hearts as the tension was too great. Hamish, Connor Cooke, Ronan, Vincent all played well while the other boys all did their job.
Highett 1 3 9 4 5 29
Hampton 1 6 1 0 6
Goals: Hamish, Adams 1, Koby Brookes 1, Ronan Keating 1 and Thomas Lamb 1.
Our second match was against Hampton and after a tight first half the boys then let loose to win comfortably in the second half. Thomas, Hamish, Connor Cooke and Vincent all played very well. The boys could get a run on and they weren’t as crowded as the grounds we played on were smaller than our home ground. In this game we had 4 different goal kickers which was an excellent effort. With 2 wins now we were very excited going in to the next game which was the Grand Final.
Highett 1 1 7 2 1 13
Ajax 1 1 7 2 3 15
Goals: Hamish Adams 2
Our third match was against Ajax and once again this was a hard fought game. A see saw match that saw us unfortunately be a couple of points behind at the final siren. All the boys went in after every ball and they all made us very proud to be a Highett Bulldog as they all tried very hard for each goal. We had a very successful season with 10 wins, 1 draw and 1 lose and then winning 2 of our 3 games in the Lightning Premiership.
Great seasons were had by Mitchell, George, Jared, Darcy, Matthew, James, Vincent, Connor Cooke, Thomas, Vanderlei, Ronan, Cameron, Jack, Will, Osgar, Liam, Hamish, Koby, Lachie, Damon, Galen, Connor De Fina, Josh, Lucas and Bryn.
Thank you to all the parents who tirelessly volunteered each week . Thank you to Victor Blitsas, Phil Brookes, Paul OBeirne, Mick Crawford and Mick Cooke who had a job every
week. Thank you Greg Vakis for being a brilliant coach and every boy had the time of their life. See you all next season.
