Queensland selectors have named a squad of 26 players to compete in the 2012 Australian Country Football Championships to be held in Wagga Wagga from July 19 to July 22 and our own Noosa Tigers Danny Brewster, Owen Bailey and Adam Eady are in the squad.
Selector Brian Douge said he was pleased with the quality and spread of the final Queensland squad which sees 90% of Queensland country regions represented.
“In terms of player size it’s a relatively small team but it is fast, enduring and skilful which is ideal for the heavy grounds and often wet conditions in Wagga,” said Douge.
The Australian Country Football Championships were established 20 years ago with the first Australian Country Carnival hosted by Shepparton, Victoria.
Its a gruelling schedule for our three boys with games on the Thursday (19/7) against NSW/ACT and then Vic 2 before finishing the day with an easy outing against Vic 1.
The next day its SA and then WA with performance dictating their Saturday action.
At the last carnival we also had 3 reps with the two Luke's - Matthews and Brauer - playing some great footy in the Maroon jumper before returning and helping us to a flag.
Good luck to Punky, Owey and Bocky for a trip to remember and some great friendships in footy
