Geelong league legend passes
Danny Lannen | June 14th, 2012
MAX Finnemore always said he was a slippery little rover in his early football days.
He played up at Nyah West on flanks of the Murray River before life brought him to Geelong and his career took on even more acclaim off the field.
Across dedicated decades he became one of Geelong Football League's most-admired contributors as a board member, life member, interleague campaigner, finals match-day operations chief, radio presenter and ardent Bell Park supporter of almost 50 years.
His passion for the game and its people will light countless anecdotes as his communities lament his death at 73.
"A genuine, generous gentleman," long-time mate Graham Rawlins said yesterday.
Mr Finnemore collapsed at his long-time workplace, The Yardz Hotel, a fortnight ago and died on Tuesday. He was husband of Bev and father of Gary and Craig.
His death also turns the page on decades of selfless involvement with Geelong West Cricket Club, where he and Bev and Mel Borrack were installed as first life members.
Family and friends will celebrate and farewell Max Finnemore at a service at Tucker's Barrabool Hills chapel, Highton, at 11am on Monday.
