Right from the first bounce the Blues were quick out of the gate. They were completely dominant all over the ground from the get go. The return of Nick Woodhhams had instant impact in familiar territory setting up play out of the backline. First goal to John Parker came after a Jimmy Drury intercept. Quickly followed by a Liam Baster pass to Jack Kerin who landed a long range goal assisted by big JP protecting the ball through the big sticks. Jayson Cleaver got into the action with a fantastic goal then more goals with Jimmy Drury then Nick Woodhams. Next up was a free kick to Deed who passed to JP in the square for another goal. Ben Thompson was defending well together with Cameron Niland, keeping Terrigal at bay. City kept possession and pushed forward with a quick goal to Mick Deed. The quarter was rounded out by another goal to JP with a great snap and even a fist pump from the big fella! City blew them away up 8-2 to 4 points at the first break.
City could be forgiven for starting a bit slow in the second term with Terrigal booting a quick goal. Woodhams, Aaron Dalton, Thommo and Owen Dawes defended well, pushing the panthers wide. It took until the 8 minute mark for City to goal following solid linkages from Dawes to Dave Bowden onto Kerin down to JP who kicked truly. City had a few wayward shots on goals as Terrigal started to settle but they had nothing to kick to. Half time saw City maintain a big lead lead to 9-6 to 1-7.
The horrible third quarter didn't eventuate for City as they got into it pretty quickly. Surprised to see Deed getting plenty of kicks - in the backline for a change! He worked in well with Dalton, Thompson and Cleaver all sweeping around. Justin Kelly dominated the ruck with Woodhams and Cleaver working the centre. First goal set up through Danny Hamilton onto Heath Robinson to Dave Bowden. Another quick goal to Andrew Edrie who showed plenty. Deedy was even impressing himself racking up possessions - a long way from our goal! Terrigal continued to battle away jagging a goal against play. JP returned with a jagged goal of his own (he said he meant it!). The quarter ended on a high with Dawes cutting off a Terrigal play getting the ball off to Dalton and onto Edrie for his second for the quarter. Scores at the final break City 13-9 to their 3-7.
With the game in the bag, the Blues continued to dominate from the start of the last term with several promising plays involving Jon Crace, Bowden, Woodhams, Chris Webster and Deedy. Four minutes in with a goal to Dalton after set up play through Niland, Parker and Deed. Terrigal got another against the play, the first time the ball got into their forward line at the 7 minute mark. Not long after Cracey booted a nice goal. Terrigal got a consolation goal after an 'interesting' 50 metre penatly was awarded. Late in the game Thommo got some frost-bite on his eyebrows with a screamer right in front of the vocal City Thirds 'hill' much to their delight! The game ended as City's smallest ruckman in years Chris Geniola won a tap!
City running out with a good win 15-13 103 to 7-8 50.
Goals to Parker (5), Edrie (2), and singles to Cleaver, Deed, Kerin, Woodhams, Drury, Baster, Crace and Dalton.
City was best served by Woodhams, Edrie, Kerin, Thompson, Parker & Bowden.
Special mention to Jackson Tisdell who umpired the 2nd Division game, backing up to umpire the 1st Division game and then running for the Premier Division game - a great effort from the young fella! A 'True Blue'!!!
