On a fine sunny day at home on an oval that was firm in the middle but a bit slippery out wide, our Noosa Tigers produced a fine display of modern team footy to take the choccies by 152 points.
Not having seen the Tigers for a while it was great to see what methodical system and confidence they played with, and with Owen Bailey coming to the fore in a disciplined and attacking back half (not forgetting Bova and Jason Boydle) as well as the experienced Tom McKittrick, Cubby, Woosha and Co. in the midfield it was a regular occurence that the ball was shot forward into Noosa's forward line.
It was great to see Punky Brewster is still the hardest working key forward with his relentless defence supporting his marking and kicking skills. Bocky Eady is a form key forward and as an experienced defender carries a few of those tricks into marking contests, whilst Travis Mills is a dangerous as ever and a great voice in organising foward targets.
There was also some youth in the speedy Dom Waterman and big Jake Hawkesworth who both play their roles with a developing understanding of the team expectations.
Back to the game - Noosa kicked into a slight breeze in the opening term and with Burleigh fresh and at it, led by 6 goals at 1/4 time yet looked to be ready to break the game open.
Punky Brewster and particularly Bocky Eady were in top touch in the second as Noosa rattled on 8 majors (& 10 points) to 2 to put the game to bed with an 82 point half time lead. Steve Simpson has evolved and was getting first touch to it, while Azza Laskey, Toddy Panoho, Tom McKittrick, Cubby and a host of mid fielders were booming the ball forward.
The third bordered on dull as Noosa dropped back a cog and Burleigh had a bit more time to deliver, but the difference was still 106 points at 3/4 time with our Tigers likely to either kick on in the last or see the game fizzle out over the last 30 minutes.
In the last, Noosa took complete control and added 9 goals and celebrated Punky's 10th goal and saw Bocky score 6 for the game. Special mentions to Dave Welch who played on with a knock and finished with 3 goals and a good performance, and Nate Winter who was hard at the ball and worked hard all day.
