Mt Burr United Football Club stalwart Adam Wiese will take to the field (injury permitting) for his 250th Senior Game when the Mt Burr A grade take on Pt MacDonnell this week at home.
Adam Weise, (Weisey) first donned the green and gold jumper in 1993 as a new recruit to the club and his list of achievements since then is nothing short of outstanding.
Adam won his first A-grade Premiership in 1995 as Captain of the side. He then went on to play in the 1996, 2009, 2010 and 2011 premierships. He was unable to take to the field due to injury in the 2000 Grand Final, but coached the side to a premiership that year.
Adam has won five club best and fairest.
In 1995 he won the Mail Medal and made the SA State Country Team.
In a career spanning over twenty years Adam has always put a strong emphasis on Junior development. He was appointed the inaugural South East Glenelg Academy Coach and has coached Mt Burr for ten seasons always giving the young ones a go in the A grade ranks.
“Seeing and assisting junior players such as Ryan Gamble, Johnny and Brad Agnew and Chris Puiatti develop into the players they have become is a career highlight for me,” Wiese said.
“I plan to concentrate more on the junior development of players when eventually I retire as a player” he added. “I have been lucky over the years to be able to gain experience from such people as Rick Stevens, David Wallis, Maurie Puiatti and Greg Reilly and have had long term team mates such as Scott Bevan, Dale Bowering and Will Whitty”.
It has not all been a bed of roses for the veteran footballer who has had to overcome ongoing battles with injury and in a career with so many highlights he said, “ Loosing that Grand Final in 2003 in the mud at Pt Mac was one I won’t forget”.
When asked about the Burr Football Club Adam said, “Everyone is treated as an equal here, they are a modest club who don’t showboat and the way you handle yourself winning is as important as the way you handle yourself in defeat.”
He added, “One of my greatest career highlights was receiving life membership of the Mt Burr Football United Club in 2009”.
