Wattle Range Council Deputy Mayor Cr Rob Dycer officially declared open the upgraded treated water scheme at the Kalangadoo Oval (which is officially known as the Kalangadoo Soldiers Memorial Park).
As part of Saturday's festivities, the club held it's annual sponsors and life members' luncheon.
The invitation to Cr Dycer was extended by the Kalangadoo War Memorial Park and Community Sports Club Management Comittee. This organisation is the result of the 2011 merger of two other bodies.
It holds a liquor licence and provides social and sporting facilities for Kalangadoo cricketers, footballers, netballers and lawn bowlers and the general community at the Kalangadoo Soldiers Memorial Park.
Not only has Cr Dycer been the Sorby Adam Ward representative since 2005, the management committee was keen to acknowledge his strong support for the oval project as well as the associated upgrade of Kalangadoo's Community Wastewater Management Scheme.
Cr Dycer has had a close connection with the Kalangadoo sporting community through such roles as a Mid South East Football League umpire and Umpires Director, League President, Life Member and Investigation Officer.
Wattle Range Council arranged for the upgrade of the storage lagoon by contractors SMB Civil and for the treated effluent to be used to water the Kalangadoo Oval. As part of the project, new pumps were installed and irrigation pipes laid, the oval surface was sprayed for weeds and then re-seeded.
Mid South East Football League President Peter Mitchell was an official guest and other VIP guests are those people who worked on the project.
They are Kimberly Awalt (Wattle Range Council Engineering Department), Carlin McNeil (SMB Civil), Jamie Jennings (JB Irrigation), Darren Galway (Blade Runner Turf), John Janeway (John Janeway Spraying) and Dennis Muhovics (Lonergan and Muhovics Pumps and Electrical).
Apologies have been submitted by Wattle Range Council CEO Frank Brennan and Engineering Manager Tom Avery.
Among those to publicly praise the playing surface of the Kalangadoo Oval is sporting commentator Bill 'Chappy' Chapman.
