Despite not registering a win in the Premier Division competition so far this year, there was good news for three Campbelltown players this week.
Rising star, Ben Wharton was selected in the Under 18’s NSW/ACT Rams squad. Ben is 17 years of age and comes from Picton, He played junior football for Camden then followed the AFL Pathway to Campbelltown U18's who became Undefeated Premiers with Ben being recognised as Best on Ground. This year Ben is Vice Captain of the Campbelltown Premier Division and was selected in the GWS Academy earlier in the year. Ben has also been selected as a Top Up Player for GWS Giants Reserve Team playing in the NEAFL Competition.
Taran Etto & Josh Van Luenen will on Sunday play for the UWS Giants in their NEAFL match against Brisbane Lions at Brisbane.
It is timely for Taran (of aboriginal descent) to be recognized for this weekend’s AFL Indigenous Round. He is 16 years of age and played his junior football for Camden and also followed the AFL Pathway to play Senior Football for Campbelltown. He was the AFL Sydney Rising Star nominee for Round 1 and is also in the GWS Academy.
Josh, 17, is from Tahmoor and also played his junior football at Camden and this year and rounds out the talented juniors following the AFL Pathway to play Senior Football for Campbelltown. Josh was also selected in the GWS Academy. It is a marvelous achievement by Josh considering he endured a personal tragedy last year when his father was tragically killed in a truck accident in Victoria. We are all very proud of Josh and his achievements during this devastating period of his life.
