Saturday sees three of our teams travel to Picken Oval to renew our rivalry with Wests, while Div 4 boldly go where no North Shore Bomber has been before, to Bensons Lane to take on NorWest.
This Week’s Matches
8:30am – Under 18s v Western Suburbs at Picken Oval
12:00pm – Division Four v NorWest at Bensons Lane
12:30pm – Division One v Western Suburbs at Picken Oval
2:30pm – Premier Division v Western Suburbs at Picken Oval
Picken Oval
Picken Oval is on Hampton St, Croydon Park, next door to the Magpie Sports Club.
To get there, cross the Harbour Bridge. Take the Western Distributor across Anzac Bridge, and keep going straight ahead along City West Link.
Go straight ahead past Parramatta Road. The traffic may be heavy along this stretch of road, so allow plenty of travel time. Go straight ahead at Liverpool Road, and get in the right lane.
Turn right at the lights to Georges River Road. Go straight ahead at the Brighton Ave (Campsie) turnoff, through the shopping centre; and take the third street on the left after the lights, into Hampton St. The street sign on the corner has a sign pointing to Western Suburbs Australian Football Club.
When you see the licensed club, the oval is behind it. There is some parking on site at the ground, but not a lot; if you can’t fit in there, there’s plenty of on-street parking nearby.
To get there by public transport, catch the train to Burwood; then catch the Sydney Buses 492 bus. This runs along Brighton Ave. Get off just before the Cooks River bridge; and the ground is visible from there.
Bensons Lane
Bensons Lane Sporting Complex is on Bensons Lane at Richmond.
To get there, go north-west along the M2. There are roadworks this weekend, with reduced speed limits and the likelihood of congestion, so allow plenty of travel time.
Go all the way along the M2, and continue along the M7 to the Richmond Road exit. Turn right onto Richmond Road, and keep going straight ahead past the The Northern Road junction.
When you pass the golf course, take the next right onto Bourke St. Cross the railway line next to East Richmond Station, go straight ahead at Windsor St and turn left at Francis St.
Bensons Lane is the third street on the right. Go along Bensons Lane, and you’ll pass a variety of sports fields. The AFL ground is just before the main clubhouse. There’s plenty of parking on site.
It’s a long trip on public transport, and even more so this weekend with trackwork. Catch the train to Strathfield, a trackwork bus to Parramatta, and back onto the train to Richmond. At Richmond, it’s a bit of a walk; turn right, cross Windsor St, turn right at Francis St and left at Bensons Lane.

Our Opposition
This is the second time we’ve taken on Wests this year. The first meeting, at Gore Hill, saw the Bombers take out a comfortable win.
But memories will still be fresh of our visit to Picken Oval last year, when Wests pulled off an upset win against the Bombers. The Bombers will need to be fit and firing, and at their best, to maintain the solid run of form and keep us near the top of the ladder.
Red and Black Ball
There’s only one more week to book your place for the Red and Black Ball. Bookings close on 30th June; and no bookings will be taken after that date or on the night.
It will be held on the evening of Saturday 14th July at the Greenwood Plaza. The evening will have a Casino Royale theme. Tickets are $100 per head, $60 for an Under 18s player or $150 for a Under 18s player and an accompanying patent. This gets you a three-course meal, drinks and much more. Drop us a line at northshorefc@yahoo.com.au to secure your place.
