Sam Naismith is establishing himself as an important cog in North Shore's Senior team. The former Gunnedah Bulldogs AFL player from the Tamworth League, is adapting well to his first season in the Sydney Football League.
Sam started playing AFL as a 16yr old in Senior 1st Grade as there was no junior football. Now in his 4th year of AFL, standing at 6ft 10inches (208cms), it's easy to understand why the Swans have shown a keen interest to include him in the highly regarded Academy program.
North Shore's senior coach Jon Hayres summed up Sammy as "coming across as a laconic country kid, but has a real competitive beast inside. Sam is a quick learner, his ruck work has improved and you can see the impact of the Academy program. Sam has an amazing ability below his knees for someone of his height. He has a great vertical leap and he loves to go forward and kick a goal. It's scary to think what he could be when he gets himself fitter".
North Shore looks forward to seeing the country kid continue to make his mark on the Sydney competition, with further improvement to come as he continues to train hard and learn from each game.
