At the recent Queensland Country Championships where the Stockmen played Cairns and won, there was a very strong Western Magpies/ Sherwood districts flavour.
Firtsly congratulation to Jim Rozynski (back at the Magpies this year) being named Captain of the Stockmen who proved to good on the day.
And congratulations to Ben Hefernan- Roper who also made the representative team and performed well.
What was also pleasing was that the best afield was awarded the Bob Peirce Medal .
(Bob was a life member and a legend at the club who had also worked with the BJAFL QAFL for many years Bob passed this year.)
Another Link to the Western Magpies / Sherwood was the Wayne Jackson Medal awarded to the Cairns best player on the day.
Wayne unforntualey passed away in his early 30's playing in the Cairns league.
(Wayne also spent a number of years playing seniors at Sherwood Districts gaining selection in the state squad, SQAFA rep side (yesterdays Stockman) and member of Sherwood team who won the State League title in the 1980's.)
Again great to see those current past and present efforts and contributions honoured by the league.
