Mulwala Netball Results Saturday 9/6/12
The Mulwala Lions girls travelled to Numurkah and were challenged in all grades by the strong Numurkah Club. The girls fought hard in a lot of entertaining and hard fought games. It was fantastic to see Casey back on the court in A Grade after a long recovery from illness. She is an inspiration to all of us.
A Grade
The Blues came out firing and the Lions girls were chasing from then on. Great defensive turnovers via Kate, Cara and Millie got the Lions back into the match. 9-11 down at quarter time. The Lions took control of the second quarter in the final moments after being well down again, leading the quarter 11-10, but still down by 1 at half time, 20-21. Without defender Erin Crowhen, this meant Coach Casey Hudgson stepped onto the court at WA for the first time since 2010 and made an impact. But unforced errors all over the court and luck not going the Lions way still had the Lions down 29-31 at three quarter time. Interesting decisions that never went the Lions way all day finally got too much for the girls and the Blues punished this with amazing shooting. The girls fought all day trying to overcome a form lapse, unusual errors as well as great tenacity by the Blues, but finished 36-41 down at the final buzzer. Kate Lynch again was a stand-out creating numerous turnovers and standing up when the team needed her. Cara Wood battled hard against freakish shooting and Casey Hudgson were the Lion best. $50 cash award to Kate Lynch, Wingates Sports Award to Cara Wood and Pre-Season Shirt Award to Casey Hudgson..
B Grade
A very physical game between the top two teams on the ladder. All the girls kept their heads high and fought well. Half time changes saw two gun Under 17’s , Jess Thomson and Tori Bennett, take the court and both played an outstanding half, thanks heaps girls. Tayla Smith shot her goals in from all angles with Nat controlling the mid court doing whatever she could to win the game. Nat as captain supported and encouraged all members of the team. Bre did well throughout the defensive end. All girls played a great game ignoring most bumps and crashes. Although losing by 2 goals, we know we will come
back firing next week. Final score 45-47. $30 Cash Award to Tayla Smith, Brett James Electrical Coaches Award to Nat Ferguson and Nosh Deli Award to Bre Flanagan.
C Grade
A very physical game today for the girls. They fought hard over the four quarters but unfortunately were unable to come out with a win. Great defence by Megs and Hil. Final score 29-41. Fresh Decor Award to Megan Fields, Sully’s Fuels Award to Stacey Green and Lake Deck Cafe Award to Hil Van Ieperen.
C Reserve
Mul girls faced a very experienced senior team today. Mid court played excellent but Mul suffered shyness in accuracy. Numurkah’s expertise showed across the court. This was a good test for the Mul girls. Look forward to playing them again with our batteries charged up. Final score 42-54. Mulwala Pharmacy Award to Casey Matthews, Lake Mulwala Pharmacy Award to Hayley Fry and Lakeside Kebabs Yarrawonga Award to Zoe Urquhart .
Under 17
The girls faced the top side today and really battled hard. Tori Bennett worked overtime in in defence putting lots of pressure on the ball. Unfortunately the Mul girls let themselves down with poor passing. Shooters Clare, Jess and Nat all worked hard. The whole team worked hard in defence as Numurkah skills were outstanding. Thanks to coaches Kim and Steph for stepping in. First loss for the Under 17’s this season shows the team still has a lot of work to do to challenge Numurkah in finals. Final score 18-40. Judd’s Mensland Yarrawonga Award to Tori Bennett and La Porchetta Award to Clare O’Sullivan.
Under 15
A fantastic effort by all the girls in a game that was goal for goal until the dying minutes. Mulwala’s pressure in defence was outstanding, with the two Lauren’s combining well with great support from Tayla, Eden and Darcee. Once again Tegan and Tea had their eyes in from the start, barely missing a goal. Georgia fed the ball well into the ring. Thanks to Montana for filling in- she played a great last quarter in centre. Final score 31-36. Renature Award to
Tea Glass, Judds Mensland Yarrawonga Award to Lauren Miles and Lake Mulwala Sports Club Award to Georgia Glass.
Under 13
The girls experienced their first loss of the season going down to a very strong Numurkah team. To their credit they continue to build on their teamwork and their encouragement to each other was great. Lots to keep working on, keep up the good work girls. Final score 21-34. Salon One 2 One Award to Britt Hanley, Lake Mulwala Sports Club Award to Maddie Gissing, Central Café Yarrawonga Award to Grace Thomson.
Under 12
Great game today for the Under 12’s and another strong win to cement top position. Versatility has been the key to success as well as a team approach and commitment to putting our systems and strategies into place in the game. Our goalers, Jordy, Chloe and Lauren moved well and converted nearly every scoring opportunity. Likewise our defenders- Alaina, Hayli and Jordy- asserted plenty of defensive pressure and combined well to produce a number of turnovers. Our centre court- Abbey, Maddy and Ash- moved the ball well, fed the goalers beautifully and provided great options all the way down the court. Keep up the good work girls. Final score was 41-6. Lake Mulwala Sports Club Award to Hayli Garner, McDonalds Award to Maddy Cooksey and Kelz Kandy Koaches Award to Ash Churchin .
