Mulwala Netball News Update
Four Mulwala netballers represented the Murray League in various tournaments over the past two months, finishing last weekend with the WM Loud tournament in Albury.
The girls represented Murray League in two grades, Tori Bennett and Jess Thomson played in the under 17’s and Maddi Kennedy and Grace Thomson played in the under 13’s side.
The under 17’s side were runners up in the Shepparton and Wangaratta tournaments, while the under 13’s won the Wangaratta tournament and were runners up in the WM Loud tournament in Albury.
Maddi and Grace will now go on to play in the State Association tournament in Melbourne on June 24.
MFNC are proud of the girls that represented the club at interleague level. It is good development for the girls to be playing at this high standard. It demonstrates how strong our junior netballers are in all grades to have such representation in the Murray league squads.
The club fully supports and wishes Maddi and Grace all the best for the state carnival.
Congratulations to Maddi Kennedy, Grace Thomson, Tori Bennett and Jess Thomson pictured below.
Mulwala Netball Results vs Nathalia
The Mulwala Lions girls hosted Nathalia after the week off and were successful in several hard fought games. Keep up the excellent efforts in all grades.
A Grade
The Lions started the game off dominating the first quarter with a 14-5 start. The team stuck to the plans and their defensive pressure was rewarded with accurate shooting. Nathalia hit back in the second quarter restricting the Lions to a 11-10 quarter. Changes in the third quarter line up didn’t faze the girls
putting in a great quarter, winning it 14-11. But the last quarter was dominated by the Purps making a charge to steal the match. The Lions steadied in the final stages to run out winners 49-39. Steph Beams dominated in attack against physical opposition, Kate Lynch again stood up when the team needed her in defence and E J is settling well into the Lions attacking line up. $50 cash award to Steph Beams, Lake Mulwala Sports Club Mug Award to Kate Lynch and Sully’s Fuel Award to E J Schifferle.
B Grade
The first quarter wasn’t the best quarter of our game with only one goal up at quarter time. The second quarter the girls came out fired up with Nat Ferguson running the centre beautifully supported well by Molly Giggins and Sophie Taylor unstoppable in goals resulting in a 12 goal lead at half time. The girls held that lead for the rest of the game with the final score 55-41. Overall good effort shown by the girls. Top Award to Nat Ferguson, Brett James Electrical Coaches Award to Molly Giggins and Lake Mulwala Sports Club Mug Award to Sophie Taylor.
C Grade
The girls all played a fantastic match. Great shooting by Jess and Laura along with great passing into the ring saw the girls come away with a win, 47-32. Thanks to Mickayla and Zoe for filling in for us. Great game by all. Fresh Decor Award to Jess O’Bryan, Lake Mulwala Sports Club Mug Award to Laura Lavis and Ash Blake Beauty Therapy Award to Mary Munro.
C Reserve
Great team effort again. Nathalia stuck with the Mul girls for two quarters but the Lions drew away in the third quarter with Hayley Fry shooting and rebounding well, and assisted by Brooke and Zoe. Fantastic effort once again with the final score 57-26. Renature Beauty Award to Zoe Urquhart, Mulwala Pharmacy Award to Hayley Fry and Yarrawonga Bakery Award to Ash McDonald.
Under 17
The girls knew Nathalia would be firing today from third on the ladder without a loss so far. Our Mulwala Under 17’s in second place on the ladder did a great job of keeping on top of the play and contesting the ball. Defence was solid from the height and determination of Tori and Hannah, and backed up by Nat and Morgs in WD throughout the game. Clare and Jess worked exceptionally hard in shooting and both girls had some top class defenders to contend with. Courtney, Mia and Kandy kept the mid court alive with their drives and steady passes into the ring. A great and important win girls, final score 30-23. Wingates Sports Award to Clare O’Sullivan, Lake Deck Café Award to Hannah Clarke.
Under 15
A tough fought game against Nathalia with Mulwala trying hard for all four quarters. Darcee, Little Loz and Big Loz making Nathalia shooters work hard for their goals. Our centre court of Tayla, Georgia, Jas and Eden fed well to shooters Tea and Teagan. A great last quarter by the girls just fell short in the end. Final score 31-33. Yoox Award to Eden Moore, Lakeside Kebabs Award to Jasmine Gleeson and Lake Mulwala Sports Club Award to Lauren Pitches.
Under 13
The girls had a great win due to the fact they are starting to put into practice systems and set-ups that we are learning at training. They are beginning to work together better as a team, talking to each other all over the court and driving hard. A great even performance all through the court. Keep up the great work girls. Final score 40-8. Salon One 2 One Award to Ziggy Wright, La Porchetta Award to Elise Beamish, Lake Mulwala Sports Club Award to Grace Thomson.
Under 12
Well done Under 12 girls for a well fought win against a quality side. With a focus on front- cuts and screens at training it was exciting to see these in action in the game. Lauren and Chloe combined well all day in goals, moving and shooting well. They were fed well into the ring by Ash, Alaina and Abbey. Jordy and Hayli combined well in defence to put plenty of pressure on the Nathalia goalers and they created a lot of turnovers, which the rest of the team
capitalised on. Another great game, exciting to watch and extremely rewarding to see our training in action on the court. Well done girls. Final score was 24-17. Salon One 2 One Award to Jordy McCarthy, Lake Mulwala Sports Club Award to Chloe Bogle, Central Café Yarrawonga Award to Alaina Bruce and Kelz Kandy Koaches Award to Lauren Browning .
