SENIORS
Panton Hill has completed the first phase of their 2012 campaign with a 53 point win over Parkisde in trying conditions at Panton Hill. The win keeps the Hills undefeated at the top of the ladder following victories against all the other sides in third division as the team rests for a bye next weekend. There were a number of fillins from the Reserves with the Hills having more than half a dozen players out with injury, but they played their role well in the wet conditions. Joffa Byron kicked 4 goals in the opening quarter before being shut down but the Hills went into half time with a 10 goal lead. The rain came down at the long break which made the second half a bit of a slog. There were only 3 more goals for the Redbacks with plenty of behinds racked up on the ledger. Although Parkside kicked more goals than The Hills in the second half the win was assured. Benn Parker continues his good form and was best on ground with some strong marking in the middle and on the wings, whilst other wet weather contenders included Brett Thorn, Ben Strongman and Rob Guest. Down back Nathan Brundell and Jayson Darcy-Molloy held up to the task of shutting down the Red Devils forwards. Great for the Hills to have a rest now and hopefully get over some of the injuries with the bye next week.
RESERVES
The reserves entered the game today with an undermanned side due to the injury curse that has hit the senior side. With so many out the Redbacks felt that this was going to be danger game against bottom side Parkside. How wrong they were. It’s amazing that when you give some boys the opportunity they take it with both hands. Ben Woods provided the strength up forward and Alex Bartsch again proved himself as a ball winner. Jack LeGassick was moved from full back to full forward which provided the big target up forward and Vice Captain Ty Dummett also enjoyed himself in an uncommon forward position. In tough conditions the game was scrappy but The Hills endeavour to win the contested ball in the midfield was their strength and the difference on the day. The Panton Hill side were in control all game and came away with the points with a solid win. Some old stagers who were called in at late notice and also did a great job with Shane “Fat Cat” Lyons getting amongst it with his leadership on the ground on show and James Dodd was getting busy in defence and even had a run in the midfield. Better players included Brett Aldred, Andrew Boyle, David Walton, Jack LeGassick and Jimmy Anderson.
