Saturday was fine but windy as the Bombers took to the playing fields at Campbelltown and Macquarie Uni.
The early game at Mac Uni saw a good wind blowing through, as our Div 4 side played their best football all season, jumping the Warriors in the first quarter and going on to complete a 48-point win.
The first quarter of the Premier Division game at Monarch was a battle of the defence. The Bombers were kicking into the wind, and managed two goals after marks from Dale Fitzgerald and Nick Todd. But overall it was a tight and defensive quarter, the Bombers scoring all of the 16 points to be scored. It wasn't a first half that reached any great heights, but gradually the Bombers increased their lead; grinding away at the scoreboard and holding the Blues scoreless until the final minute of the quarter, leading by 36 points at the long break.
The Bombers had to absorb some pressure in the third term, as Campbelltown fought back to get the margin back to within 15 points; but the Bombers steadied to lead by 27 at the last change. They were winning ugly, but finally got some run going in the last quarter to pull away and win by 57 points - not a great performance, but enough for a comfortable win.
Meanwhile in Div 1 at Macquarie Uni, our reserves got the jump to hold the Warriors scoreless and lead by 30 points at the first change. And although Mac Uni attempted to fight back in the second term, they could only make up one goal on the margin, the Bombers remaining 25 points clear at half time.
The balue of the good start was instrumental, as try as they might, Mac Uni couldn't get back in the game; and the Bombers had the answers to take the game by 23 points.
