In a first for the region, the Tallangatta and District, Hume and Ovens and King leagues will have Footballer of the Year awards with the respective winners to receive $500.
Coaches will award 5-4-3-2-1 votes with weekly updates and a leader board to appear in The Border Mail’s country football pages each Thursday.
WAW’s deputy chief executive Michael Mack said yesterday country football and netball was a huge part of the community and deserved to be recognised.
“We have had a long association with football and netball in the region, as the major naming rights sponsor for each league, and these awards are a result of that partnership,” Mack said.
“It’s fantastic to be involved with The Border Mail and the Tallangatta and District, Hume and Ovens and King leagues in presenting this award, which we hope to extend to include netball in the near future.”
The Ovens and King league kicked off last weekend, with the Hume and Tallangatta and District leagues starting on Saturday.
