Mulwala Netball Results
The Mulwala Lions girls travelled to Echuca and in warm conditions battled hard against tough opposition. The Lions girls have started the season extremely well with most teams on or near the top of the ladder. The girls now have a well deserved week off for Interleague next week-end.
A Grade
Mulwala recorded another win in A Grade but were definitely pushed all day by the Echuca United Eagles girls. An error driven first quarter saw Mulwala lead 11-7 at quarter time. The Lions broke away in the second quarter with better shooting accuracy having the Lions 27-16 up at half time. An intensity slump in the third quarter allowed the Eagles to take the third quarter 9-8, so 35-25 at three quarter time. The last quarter was a better quarter for the Lions girls with some tough fighting to create turnovers and some sharp shooting finishing the game with a 49-32 win. Erin Crowhen was consistent in defence, Emma Cooper was solid all day in C/WA and Millie Ferguson played well in WD. $50 cash award to Erin Crowhen, Ash Blake Beauty Therapy Award to Emma Cooper and Judds Mensland Award to Millie Ferguson.
B Grade
It was a tough game in hot conditions and the girls started slow putting in too many high balls and paid for it on the scoreboard. With Sophie away this week, we brought up Jess Thomson from Under 17, who came on at half time and played a great game at GA. Nat dominated the centre with many crucial intercepts. The defence end with Kim, Bre and Emily fought hard all game. Molly did it tough at WA but kept her cool against a very physical defender. Dani was consistent with goals again this week and stood up when needed. Tayla played a good half in GA. The coach had to pull some switches which paid off in the end. An exciting last quarter saw the girls come from behind and finish off well for a 3 goal win 41-38. Well done girls, love the never give up attitude. $30 Cash Award to Nat Ferguson, Brett James Electrical Coaches Award to Kim James and Renature Beauty Award to Danielle Walker.
C Grade
An excellent start in the first quarter saw the girls up by 10 goals at quarter time. Great defence and pressure down the court ensured the girls came out with a win, 35-27. Great game by all. Wingates Sports Award to Megan Fields, Nosh Deli Award to Kate Lawless and Mulwala Pharmacy Award to Jess Panter.

Another big win for the girls on the new Echuca courts. The girls were without the steadying influence of Casey, but Ash Purtle stepped up and was as solid as a rock in defence. Teaming up with Darcee, Ash McDonald and Georgia they made countless intercepts and proved difficult for the Echuca attack. The mid court of Montana and Zoe worked hard to provide great drive and feed to the shooters Hayley and Brooke. Shandelle came on with fresh legs in the last quarter and directed play, giving the girls a great confidence boost to run the game out. Final score was 49-24. Sullys Fuel Mulwala Award to Ash Purtle, La Porchetta Award to Zoe Urquhart and Lake Mulwala Sports Club Award to Hayley Fry.
Under 17
An amazing fight by our Mulwala U/17’s. Echuca had the lead in the first quarter and we knew we had a fight on our hands with the Eagles leading the ladder on points. Solid goaling in the second quarter by Jess and Clare, supported by mid court Mia and Kandy saws the quarter ending with Mulwala up by 3 goals. The third quarter saw the girls come out firing and the defensive tactics of Tori and Morgs worked wonders together with Nats WD pressure against Echuca’s quick goalers. The final quarter was a great battle and Mulwala steadied themselves, using Courtney and Mia’s great passing, and Hannah’s great work in WD to come out on top and win the game, 32-26. So proud of your efforts girls. Vanessa loves lollies. Judds Mensland Award to Clare O’Sullivan, Lake Mulwala Sports Club Award to Jess Thomson, Lakeside Kebabs Yarrawonga Award to Mia Runnalls.
Under 15
Great game of netball girls, with a narrow loss 26-28. Once again Teagan and Tea combined beautifully in goals with Tayla, Geogia and Eden controlling the centre court. Lauren Pitches played a great game in defence with aggressive intercepts and strong passes. Lauren Miles’ height proved handy in defence. Jazz and Darcy provided great support in defence. Mulwala’s third quarter was a stand-out with strong straight passes and sensational shooting by Teagan. Although a loss, a game the girls should be proud of. Well done. Lake Mulwala Sports Club Award to Tea Glass, McDonalds Yarrawonga Award to Tayla McNamara and Central Café Yarrawonga Award to Teagan Morton.
Under 13
A very lucky win, we need to focus on our systems and work together as a team. Let’s remember to work hard at training and make the most of our opportunities. Well done to all our award winners. Final score 17-12. Lake Mulwala Sports Club Award to Maddi Gissing, Kelz Kandy Award to Britt Hanley and McDonalds Yarrawonga Award to Maddi Kennedy.
Under 12
Another great game today from our talented U12 team. With a strong focus on passing at training, it was evident that this was a major improvement this week. In the first half Alaina dominated in defence and combined with Hayli it was difficult for Echuca to get an opportunity to score. Abbey, Ash and Maddy played well all day affecting a high number of turnovers throughout the centre court and feeding the goalers well. Chloe, Lauren and Jordy combined well in goals, moving and scoring well. Great to see another screen in the goal ring in the last quarter! Well done girls- still plenty to work on at training in preparation for a tough next match. Final score was 26-6. Lake Mulwala Sports Club Award to Maddy Cookesy, Kelz Kandy Award to Chloe Bogle, McDonalds Award to Abbey Hicks.
