This weekend, Round 6 in the SMJFL will be known as 'Jelly Baby Round' to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
The month of May is known as Jelly Baby Month (see poster attached) and the SMJFL will be dedicating Round 6 to support the JDRF initiative.
The JDRF is the world's largest charitable supporter of type 1 diabetes research and was founded in 1970 in the US and 1982 in Australia by a group of determined volunteers.
Internationally, JDRF has been involved in every major type 1 diabetes breakthrough of the last three decades including:
- Islet transplantation
- Beta cell regeneration
- Preventative vaccine development
- Reduction of complications
Throughout all local and international activities, JDRF's mission remains constant - to find a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications through the support of research.
The SMJFL clubs this weekend will be supporting this charity by a few simple initiatives with Jelly Baby lollies for players to have before, during and after each game. Money tins will also be located at club canteens to collect donations.
We have a great opportunity to generate some serious funds over the Jelly Baby Round for continued research to find a cure for type 1 diabetes.
The SMJFL would like to thank everyone for their support.
