HFC 2012 Record R5 Report
Supporters were grateful the weather bureau was wrong and enjoyed the beautiful sunny day, with the absolute minimum of predicted rain for our Ladies Day, supporting the Breast Cancer appeal. All four Highett teams were at home and all on oval one, keeping supporters happy. We thank the Lions Club for manning the gate early, and were thrilled to welcome 40 ladies to the lunch and afternoon activities which raised a considerable amount of money for both cancer research and the club, with donations and the sale of Memorablia Magic items. Thanks to Tracey, Alix, Ellen, Mabel, Jo and others that helped out on the day and to speakers, Cindy & Michelle. Out on the ground our Thirds opened up play and were the only Highett Bulldogs winners on the day, with a thumping win against South Yarra and inaugural coach Andrew Little best on ground, current coach Harley Soall booting seven and Scott Szatke six, with seven others joining the goal kicking party. From that match on, the only party was upstairs with the ladies, when the band started and the dancing began. St Pauls Colts Doggies ran over Highett in the last, with third quarter scores even. Jordan Pastura was best on ground for Highett, with a spread of goal kickers. The Reserves ran out next for a fifty-five point defeat by the ladder leaders, with Ari Friedman best on ground. Some supporters thought the Seniors’ match seemed much closer than the results on the board and that the Highett Bulldogs acquitted themselves well against third placed St Pauls. The band played on after the game and the conviviality of the numbers that stayed on after the game made for a great ending to another footy day.
My only wish would be that supporters and players would realise cans, bottles, old tape and orange peels never jump into bins by themselves!
Thanks to sponsors LMCLasers and Bendigo Bank.
