NOOSA coach Wayne Fletcher believes his charges will not be lulled into a false sense of security after restricting Coolangatta Tweed Heads to just a solitary behind at Noosaville yesterday.
The unbeaten Tigers were simply ruthless in the sodden round-four Pineapple Hotel Cup contest, winning 19.12 (126) to 0.1 (1).
"Our blokes wore them down in the conditions and I think the score is a reflection of our dominance," Fletcher said.
"In these conditions, to get a 20-goal win and to keep the opposition to a single scoring shot is pretty pleasing, to say the least. I can't remember it happening in a game that I've been involved with before. It would have been a long time ago, if ever."
The reigning premier claimed a 3.3 (21) to 0.0 (0) advantage at quarter-time.
The visitors finally got on the scoreboard in the second stanza, but Noosa was up 9.5 (59) to 0.1 (1) at the main break.
The Tigers kept the pressure on to extend their advantage to 12.7 (79) to 0.1 (1) in the third quarter before they ran away with the match in the last phase.
Although most pundits expected the Tigers to win, the final score shocked most observers.
Sharpshooter Danny Brewster kicked 10 goals to extend his season tally to 24 and Peter Trompf and Aaron Laskey were ever-present dangers on the ball.
"I think the reason we won so convincingly was because of our high work rate, sheer persistence and (wet-weather) game plan," Fletcher said.
While Noosa has eased to the top of the south-east Queensland division-one ladder, Fletcher says his side will not take anything for granted in coming weeks.
"We're certainly not going into any game complacent, thinking we're going to do it easy," he said.
"We're only three games in. There's a long way to go."
And his side is yet to tackle teams such as the Western Magpies and Wilston Grange.
"We've got Surfers Paradise next and all reports are they have recruited heavily over the summer and are confident about their chances this year, so we look forward to that challenge and hopefully we get the four points - that's all we're after," Fletcher said.
"Then we have Burleigh down on the Gold Coast, then a bye and then we play Western Magpies down in Brisbane. After that we'll have a better idea of where we're at"
