Brendan “Jonty” Rhodes
For those of you who are not aware Jonty has now moved on to WA to be part of the game day commentary team covering the Western Australia Football League.
He has been a terrific asset to the Jets over the years and his departure will leave us short of a person very willing to help at any time with any task. He has always made himself available to take on extra work around the club and unfortunately his departure will be sorely felt.
For a number of years he has been the man behind the Gazette articles covering the Jets both on and off the field. His ability to put into words what the Jets do on the filed has been terrific, if not sometimes controversial.
He has been our contact with Sydney AFL and the Sports Council, apart from a number of other roles including goal umpire, time keeper and club umpire, and has always been there to provide an invaluable insight into the AFL that has made running the club that much easier.
Jonty has been part of the Jets for the past seven years and during that time he has been involved in almost every aspect of the clubs operations, culminating in him taking over the executive role of club secretary for 2012.
This is demanding job that requires a significant amount of after hours work, but one that he has carried out extremely well.
Jonty summed up his feelings last Saturday when celebrating our win at Monarch Oval. He said that at the Jets he has found a home at a real country club in the city. From all of us that the Jets and the football community at large we would like to wish Jonty all the very best for the future.
