The Panton Hill Under 14’s were far too good for a gallant Yarrambat last Sundayas they once again lived up to expectations of the talent on the list. The team is developing a dynamic structure of older more experienced U14’s and younger U 13’s and the most pleasing thing is the players seem to be finding their own place in the team. It seems the players have embraced the combined U13/14 and have already set their sights on a successful season together.
As good as the performance was today, one gets the feeling there is a lot of improvement still to come from this group. The first quarter was very different from last week with the hillers scoring a goal in the first seconds of the game. Jacey Winter and Jackson Smith combined well out of the centre and Lachie Clear immediately created problems for the Yarrambat defence. He was strong in the air and created many scoring opportunities with clever handball and strong contesting. Jess Nicol, Jasper Adami, and Brodie Young were all dangerous forwards inside 50 sharing 9 goals between them with James Leonard was a tireless worker across the half forward line . Oliver Wilson has been used to playing the on ball specialist over the past few seasons but today he played a disciplined “kick behind the play” role with class but the big improver this season is undoubtedly Liam Riley who displayed incredible courage with “eyes for the ball” clashes that had supporters holding their breath at times! Yarrambat rallied in the second quarter to be only 17 points down at half time but the hillers slammed on 5 unanswered goals in the third to seal the contest. Max Brook showed his class on several occasions and big guys Tom Coghlan and Joseph Livesy are developing in to key players in the team. Every player on the ground contributed well in a great win for the team. Go hiilers!
