Summary: Well the promise of a new season always brings high expectations. And today was no different against East Ringwood who always provide a great contest no matter where both sides are on the ladder. The first quarter was a tight affair with both sides having opportunities to put scoreboard pressure on each other but failed to take full advantage with both backlines on top. The game settled down in the second quarter with Vermont having numerous chances to score, but were plagued with inaccuracy. East Ringwood’s run and carry especially from the backline was a concern and they made the most of their chances to stay in the game at the main break. Just before half time we suffered a major injury problem with our number one ruckman Simon Taylor rolling an ankle that was to put him out of the game. After half time as both sides fitness levels were tested the game developed into a scrappy affair with neither side able to gain ascendancy and at the three quarter time break only 5 points separated the side. Vermont finally broke the game open in the first 10 min of the last quarter kicking the opening 3 goals and eventually held on to win by 17 points. Well done to East Ringwood for fighting the game right out and making our boys work hard for the win. I’m sure they will trouble most opposition sides throughout the year. Well done to our boys for digging deep to get the win and we’ll be further improved for our next assignment against Balwyn next Saturday.
