HFC 2012 Record R1 Notes
Highett hit the ground running, using two ovals to get through four matches in round one, Seniors, Reserves and Thirds played against Cheltenham, while the Colts learnt a lesson from Murrumbeena. Thanks to the co-operation of all three clubs, the City of Kingston, the league and umpires, we were able to start at 10.00am and end before dark. On oval one, the once again formed, stand alone Colts of Highett, many of whom had only met at training, put up a good effort against the Lions who just roared louder. However, over all in the league, the Highett lads sit seventh on the ladder. Good start Guys. While that match was in progress, the Thirds were on Oval 2, giving us a win with similar scores to the Colts game, but reversing the results. Congratulations fellas! The Doggie Reserves won only the first quarter as Cheltenham showed the depth of what was to come in its’ Senior side. It was a tough game on a warm day to start what may seem a long season. The Senior Rosellas showed our Highett Bulldogs just how tough it can be in Division One, there will be better days ahead as the team meld and get to know each other better. Go Big Boys! Upstairs President Byron Smith and Vice President of Seniors, Lex Marshall were welcoming dignatories, SFL CEO Wayne Holdsworth, Board member David Sheridan, Cheltenham President Col Anderson and his wife Sue, along with Highett Sponsors, committee members and past players to a luncheon. The next event was the unfurling of the Premiership Flag and it was pleasing to see most of the Colts and Thirds players joining the Reserves in a very long guard of honour, along with a bigger crowd than seen last season. The first social event for the season is a “dog of an event” (Ha Ha), on Sunday April 29, when the Highett Bulldogs will visit the Sandown Greyhounds. Details on highettfc.com.au website .
