BONNIE Doon netballers did not start the season off on a good footing, but despite being up against a stronger Milawa side and being short on players, they still managed to play well.
Coordinator of coaching Cathy Parks said the four teams all did extremely well considering the pressure they were under right from the word go.
Coming up against one of last year's best sides, the girls went out there to fight hard and do their best.
A grade team looked like starting the season with only four players and on Friday they made up their numbers by using two of the under 17 girls.
"Although the A graders did not fare well at all and struggled, the B reserves and the B grade did okay.
"The A grade were up against some really good players but all put in 100 per cent on the day, and played an awesome game," Parks said.
The under 17s played extremely well and only went down by 12 goals in the end.
"This young team has three new players and this was the first time they had all played together.
"They will improve and become a side to reckon with.
"We have found some players who are only home at Bonnie Doon some weekends, but will fill in for us."
Returning to the B grade this season is Danni Goodall who missed quite a bit of last year due to studies in Melbourne.
And Leith Azzopardi and Michelle Tanner have moved into the B grade side until their fitness improves enough to bring them up to the A grade team.
"Overall though, even if we didn't have a win, the girls had a really good day and the coaching team all enjoyed the day," she said.
