Panton Hill took on Kinglake in a six quarter practice game last night for the first ever game played under lights at Panton Hill. With balmy conditions and the juniors playing an intraclub game as a curtain raiser there was a bumper crowd in attendance.
The reserves was a close fought match with Kinglake leading early, The Hitting the front and then The Lakers winning by a couple of points in the first 3 quarter contest. Once the seniors hit the crowd the pace of the game picked up with Kinglake doing all the running on the outer wing and attack up forward. Kinglakes big full forward was proving too much of a handful for Nathan Grimshaw and finished the first quarter with three goals without the Hills scoring a major. However, from there the Redbacks kicked into gear and clawed back the game in the next two quarters to eventually finish with a four goal win. Newcomer Zak Williams got into the flow of the game by the last quarter and kicked some handy goals from full foward whilst Daniel Keen continued to improve at centre half forward with assistance on the flank by youngster Lauchy Pearson. All in all coach Dean Haydock was please with the efforts and will find it tough come round 1 to fit in no less than 7 players to the senior side who were rested for this match.
