RESERVES
With a number of players unavailable in the reserves The Hills called on any available backups to fill the void and these players fitted perfectly despite having little training under the belt. The game was close throughout with the lead changing on serval occasions with the eventual winner providing a strong debate between opposition players as official scores weren’t kept.
One of the better players on the day was Andrew Jackson in the ruck. He looks like he has benefited from a full pre season and will be more than handy in the number one ruck position this year. Brett Aldred chipped in with three goals and Paul “Irish” Cronan proved to be a handful for the opposition up forward. Matthew Layt and Nick Prenc were more than capable of running the wings and used the ball well going into attack. The Hills thank the boys who came down at late notice. It will be great if they all now make training and became a regular part of the team again this year.
SENIORS
The seniors started the main game with a goal in the first minute but from there the scores were even until half time against the College side that were happy to move the ball quickly to outside runners and look for a tall targets up forward. The Redbacks were more intense at the ball and move the ball with handball and run through the middle of the large ground.
Benn Parker was back to his best and Brendan O’Connor was leading strongly up forward. It was great to continue to see the new faces of the club gel together with the old faces as new playing coach Dean Haydock could be heard all over the school leading the charges. At half time the college side held a slender two point lead but were over powered in the second half by a more stronger and fitter Panton Hill side that eventually ran out six goal winners.
Better players were: Simon Gunn, Brendan O’Connor, Benn Parker, Tristan Kreymborg & Daniel Keen.
