To all SMJFL Club Members
I am pleased to provide the first SMJFL Board update for 2012 to all SMJFL members. The planning for the 2012 season is well under way and the Board and Administration are working towards implementing a number of our key objectives and strategies that we identified in our 2012-2015 Strategic Plan “Building a New Tradition”.
OUR VISION
To be the premier independent Australian Rules Junior Football League in Australia.
OUR MISSION
To provide a safe, friendly, supportive and competitive environment which develops, promotes and encourages participation in Australian Rules football with a strong governance structure for the betterment of all.
OUR OBJECTIVES
- Financial - To be financially independent and sustainable.
- Governance - Ensure the ongoing professional structure and growth of the League.
- Football - Build quality football competitions, pathways and environments that promote health, well-being, safe, fun and inclusiveness.
- Image & Identity – Develop, build and promote a new brand, name and image that reflect the leagues values.
Currently the Board is working on the following strategies:
Financial
- Sponsorship – We have developed sponsorship packages and are actively seeking league sponsors/partners.
- Financial Stability - We will undertake a review of future capital and operating needs and prepare a Strategy Paper for discussion by member clubs mid-season.
- Review status of 2012 budget midyear.
Governance
- AFL Victoria Quality Club Program – Implement a program to ensure all clubs achieve Bronze Quality Club accreditation by the end of season. This will assist clubs to achieve a base level of administration and governance that recognises good club administration.
- Undertake further review of By-Laws.
- Undertake review of Strategic Plan mid-season and update as required.
Football Development
- Reviews which are based on Club’s feedback as part of the recent surveys undertaken by the league.
- The FDC have been reviewing Interleague, Umpiring, Grading, Lightning Carnival, Youth Girls & U16 & 17 competitions.
Image & Identity
- Launch a new identity & web site for start of 2012 season
- Official SMJFL Launch is scheduled for 28/3/12 at Sandringham Yacht Club
Moorabbin Oval Redevelopment
- Ongoing meeting with St.Kilda FC, AFL Victoria, SFL and Kingston City Council will progress throughout 2012.
