THE North Richmond Jets returned to the HDCA fifth grade winning list with 45-run victory over Glossodia in a weather-affected limited overs match at Royal Glossodia Park on Saturday.
The Jets broke a two-match losing run with the victory, which ensured they retained third spot on the ladder and put their season back on track ahead of a challenging run into the finals.
Nor-West got off to a bad start once again with the loss of a wicket in the second over for the fifth straight game, before Harry 'Potter' Stever set about putting the innings back on track.
Two quick wickets, including Potter for a quickfire 40, put the pressure back on the visitors as the score fell to 3/52 in the 11th over, but from there the game would turn in North Richmond's favour.
A controlled partnership of 110 between vice captain Rod 'Quasimodo' Bayne and team debutant Scott 'I need a nickname' Seckold lifted the Jets to 4/162 when Seckold was finally out for an impressive 65 that showed he will be a handy acquisition to the team.
Cameos from Peter 'Pirate' Richardson (19) and Ryan 'Rhyno' Johnston (14no) provided valuable assistance to Quasimodo, who passed 50 for the second time this season and went on to again finish with an undefeated 65 as North Richmond closed its innings on 5/222, which is about a par score on the tiny Glossodia ground.
Glossy got off to a solid start in its chase as its openers looked comfortable against the bowling, cruising to 32 before Rhyno produced a match turning effort to sharply stump their captain Stan Milner, and Nick 'Austin' Powers bowled well to pick up a wicket to make it 2/43.
The home team moved the score quickly to 86 with some big hitting that was ended by a great running catch in the outfield from Potter and the Jets were able to strangle the Glossodia batsmen with some tight bowling that should have been better rewarded but for another case of the butter fingers striking the team.
Les 'Carpet' Cass bowled an excellent line and length, and it was only the bad luck of a small ground that saw top edges fly for six that resulted in him going for nearly six runs an over as he claimed his first Michelle Pfeiffer for the club, finishing with 5/56 off 10 overs.
His last wicket also proved to be final ball of the match as bad light stopped play at the completion of the 37th over with Glossodia at 8/158, still 64 runs short of the Jets' total.
With Northo's score being rolled back to the 5/203 it had after 37 overs for the purpose of the result, the final margin was 45 runs in favour of the Jets.
Pirate finished with 1/26 off nine overs, Matty 'Ginger' Beggs took 1/23 off six and Austin an impressive 1/14 off six, while Toddy2Hotty Boyle got a couple to stick at first slip.
North Richmond's top two chances potentially go on the line this week with a return to two-day cricket at McMahons Park and a match against a fired up Pitt Town team coming off a great win over odds on premiership favourites Wilberforce.
