The Devon Meadow football club has gradually been building a history over the last 30 years. The history has shown that the club has been blessed with some outstanding people.
The Flannigan family built the club from the ground up and still have a large involvement in keeping the club afloat. We have characters such as “The Ice man” Jack Firth a past player and committee member for over 20 years,
Jenny Bain also has been involved with the club at committee level for over 20 years ,Jenny’s father “Senior “ was also involved in the Club as a trainer during the late 80’s, and in to the 90’s.
The McMillan family has produced life members, president, committee members and players over past two decades.
Over the years we have seen the second generations coming through the club, with fathers & sons playing for the club. I have listed just a few below.
Tommy & Pip Piper. Greg & Michael Bain.
John & Billy Percy. Pierre & Jack Hazendonk.
Dave & Jake Wynne. Michael, Patrick, James & soon to be Jack Harmes.
Last year the club had developed its first AFL listed player in Andrew McInness playing for the Carlton Football Club. Andrew played all his junior football with Devon Meadow.
The club also has develop other sporting identities in the sport of Horse racing with world class jockey Craig Williams & his bother Damien playing junior football for Devon Meadow football Club. Simon Marshall – Winner of 15 Group 1 events and Australia’s premier weight for age jockey in the eighties. (I’m sure without the club’s influence they would not be where they are today).
This is only a small part of the clubs history highlighting family & individual’s commitment within and around the club, the missing ingredient of our history is on field success.
The Devon Meadows Football and Netball club Inc has taken a new direction by electing to transfer from the Casey Cardinia division to the Nepean division of the Mornington Peninsula Football League.
Over the last couple of years the club has fallen into financial difficulties by importing players from other clubs in order to compete with the larger clubs of the Casey Cardinia Competition who have an abundance of junior players coming into their club & allowing a greater scope for junior development. This decision to change division will allow the DMFC to develop junior footballers through the under 18’s team into the senior side and to compete against clubs with similar junior resources.
The committee has implemented a financial plan to install stability within the club allowing the club to continue, and to become financially viable. Our strategy for the future is to encourage past players and supporters to again be part of the club.
As you are part of the club history we invite you to be part of the future of the Club, we are asking all past player and supporters to purchase a club membership for the 2012 season. Our target for the 2012 season is to sign up 200 members, by achieving this goal it will allow the Devon Meadows Football Club to rebuild and develop into the proud club we once were.
Without your support the club may become History forever.
Please strongly consider purchasing a membership and again being part of a great Club. For memberships please talk to any committee member or contact Martin Sprake on 0438 572 457 or Michael Harmes 0417 030.724.
Yours Sincerely
The Committee of the Devon Meadow Football Club
