NCCUA President, Darrel Luck said that the re-appointment of Peter Hampshire to the Umpire Coach’s position was a positive step by the BDAFL board and new Football Operations Manager. The President also indicated that the Committee and members of the NCCUA endorsed the re-appointment of Coach Hampshire.
The NCCUA President made the following statement, "It is a sensible decision that the BDAFL Board and Football Operations Manager have made in showing their continued commitment to umpiring by filling the Umpires Coach’s position prior to the start of official umpire training. With umpire training about to re-commence for 2012, this helps planning for the coming season and we thank the BDAFL Board for their continued help and support.”
The decision by the BDAFL gives the NCCUA the opportunity to continue planning with the Umpires Coach for season 2012. Umpire recruitment and retention are paramount for the continued success of the BDAFL competition. With the incumbent Umpires Coach now re-appointed, the opportunity for a smooth transition into the 2012 BDAFL season is now possible.
“Whilst the pause in negotiations with the BDAFL around Umpire pay rates within the framework of a new agreement has caused some anxiety, nervousness and left some umpires undecided about their umpiring future in 2012. The re-appointment of Peter Hampshire as the Umpires Coach for 2012 gives some stability to the umpiring group in light of the angst felt by umpires.”
“The ongoing commitment from the NCCUA to work closely with junior Umpires on the Central Coast and in Newcastle is one area we are keen to keep developing where umpiring numbers will grow in the future with the help of these groups and allow junior umpires the opportunity to umpire in the Black Diamond competition."
The NCCUA Committee and members congratulate Peter Hampshire on his re-appointment as Umpires Coach and look forward to working with Peter in 2012.
