WHOROULY has made the biggest move of the Ovens and King Football League off season, securing the services of former AFL listed player Kyle Archibald (left).
Archibald, 25, spent two years on Richmond's list after being selected in the 2003 national draft, and has since established himself as one of the premier key defenders in the Ovens and Murray Football League with perennial finalist Yarrawonga.
But with strong family ties at Whorouly, the 194cm big man elected to make the move to the Lions' den, and new coach Brendan Roche couldn't be happier.
"Kyle is a massive signing for us," Roche said.
"You wouldn't find players of his calibre running around in the OandK every year.
"He has some family here and was keen to be around them, and he is a great fit for the club.
"He was drafted to Richmond as a key forward and played at Yarra as a defender, but he has also spent some time in the midfield, and that's where I want to have a look at him.
"He will be based at Yarrawonga, but he has said getting over for training won't be an issue.
"He's tied up with the NSW development squad at the moment, but he'll be ready to go once training resumes after Christmas."
Roche said the good news didn't end there for the Lions, with a couple more handy signings in Luke Bryce and Tom Scullie.
Bryce is set to help shore up the Lions' back half, while Scullie should have an immediate impact in the midfield and up forward after crossing from Wangaratta Rovers.
"Luke is a big fella a key defender with more than 100 senior games at Jerilderie," Roche said.
