THE North Richmond Jets will need to be at their best this week to extend their four-match winning streak when they chase 194 to defeat Pitt Town in their Hawkesbury District Cricket Association fifth grade match at Pitt Town Sports Club on Saturday.
On a hot day at Sporties, the Jets lost the toss and were put into the field without two key bowlers and with a number of players running late, Mat 'Lozza' Laurence and Nick 'Austin' Powers were given the opportunity to take the new ball and, despite being unsuccessful, they bowled tightly with good accuracy and movement to hold the Towners to just 14 runs off the first eight overs.
However, the home team frustrated the Jets with patient batting and moved safely to drinks on 45 runs without losing a wicket, an opening partnership that continued to 62 before Matthew 'Ginger' Beggs finally got the breakthrough.
Jebal 'Stiffy' Williams struck shortly after to give himself 20 wickets for the season, but another partnership ensued as Pitt Town reach 2/95 at the second break.
Wickets to Terry 'Top Cat' Conoulty and Todd 'Toddy2Hotty' Boyle in the third session helped, but the score advanced to 4/145 before Northo had its best period of the game, with Stiffy taking his second scalp, followed by two in consecutive balls to Lozza and another the next over to Ginger reduced Pitt Town to 8/146 and put the Jets on top for the first time.
However, the home team's tail wagged and they reach 193 all out just before stumps, with Austin and Harry 'Potter' Stever picking up the last two wickets.
Scalps were shared around as all the main bowlers stuck to their task well, with Loz and Ginger each finishing with 2/29 off 12 overs, Stiffy 2/35 off 10, Toddy2Hotty 1/20 off nine, Austin 1/26 off nine and Top Cat 1/35 off 10, with Lachlan Boyle (who took another good high catch) bowled three good overs for five runs and Potter took 1/9 off five balls.
With just five minutes to bat before stumps, the Jets unfortunately lost Austin for one to an edge behind to finish the day at 1/2, needing 192 more runs to win with nine wickets in hand and a day of concentration needed to add another six points to the tally.
