2012 Season information meeting:
Adrian Wallin welcomed everyone to the 2012 season and thanked attendees at the season information meeting and the many people involved in the senior club for their efforts during the 2011 season.
He thanked those from the senior group, responsible for the majority of the club facilities’ works, and those who helped host events such as the ‘Weetbix Junior Try-athlon’ and the BJAFL finals day from which much-needed funds were raised.
Adrian spoke of high standards required to be a part of the Springwood Football Club and the accountability in meeting them as individuals and as representatives of the club. In working to enhance our reputation as a quality football club, on and off the field, people will want to be a part of our club.
In his preamble to the 2012 season, Adrian spoke about the pre-season schedule and the senior coaching staff. "The 2012 pre-season has commenced and it was good to see 33 players on the track on Tuesday and Thursday night. Training will continue on Tuesday and Thursday nights until Christmas for the Senior and U18 groups. After Christmas the U18’s will commence training separately. It would be most pleasing to see everyone on the track as soon as possible."
"There have been few changes to the senior coaching staff for 2012. I am extremely pleased that Corey Pitts has had a change of heart and decided to continue coaching the U18’s. Steve Purdy has decided to step down as Corey’s assistant coach. I thank Steve for his efforts during the season.
Paul Opbroek and David Rowett will continue as the senior coach and assistant coach respectively. They are joined in 2012 by Brian Davidson as an assistant coach. Brian adds a wealth on football knowledge and experience to the group.
Trevor Denny will take control of the Reserves alone this year after sharing the duties last season with fellow long time servant and club Life Member Brendon Hewitt. Brendon has stood down from any official role but will still be around the group to help out."
2012 Coaching Staff:
Seniors Coach: Paul Opbroek 0419 717 704
Reserves Coach: Trevor Denny 0416 164 049
U18 Coach: Corey Pitts 0432 489 889
Other issues discussed at the meeting included player recruitment, players' registration fees, sponsorship and fund-raising.
"Everyone involved with the senior club is responsible for trying to recruit players. If there is someone that you know that is considering playing football or that the club should be speaking to, let the senior coaching group know", Wallin said.
In speaking about the player's registraion fees, "The club is proud of the fact that we have maintained the cheapest registration in senior football for some time now. Unfortunately we have been forced into a position where we have to raise our fees to what is still below the average. Registration for 2012 will be $300. A discount will apply to anyone who pays their fees before the 1st March 2012. Fees before this time will be $265." Fees may also be made in instalments prior to the season start, however, the total registration fee is to be paid before being eligible to take the field.
The club is in need of sponsorship and attendees were encouraged to not only seek sponsors but to support them when acquiring the goods or services of club sponsors.
The club held several great events during last season and the players and supporters were encouraged to support this season's fund-raising events.
Senior Football Chair Adrian Wallin invited further discussion on any issue by contacting him on mobile: 0413 733 948.
